Marcus Collins- Seven Nation Army
This is going to be the debut single from the x factor runner up and to be honest it is not all that bad. As expected the singer as already received criticism from what can only be fans of the original for trying to butcher the song, kind of the same type of critism that followed Leona Lewis covering hurt by Johnny Cash or Ellie Gouldings cover of your song. What fans don’t understand is that these artists are not trying to ruin the song in any sense but instead paying respect to the artist. Marcus’s performance on the track perhaps is not superb but we forget he is a new artist who is still growing and hasn’t quite found his comfort zone yet.

On another note … how similar do these two covers sound. BTW the cover by Ben L’oncle Soul was done just a little less than two years ago

The Wombats – 1996
Seems like so long ago since the days of “Joy division” and days when I used to go to indie parties screaming “if this is a rom com kill the director”, actually maybe it was a long time ago. Growing up sucks. Anyways here are the Wombats with 1996, which comes from their album the modern glitch, released in 2011, if you haven’t heard the album yet, GET IT! Classic wombats, great sound, keep up the good work lads.

David Guetta – Turn Me On (Lyric Video) ft. Nicki Minaj
David Guetta brings you his usual blend of cool dance beats mixed with vocals from other artists, in this case Nicki Minaj. Love the artist but this track is too heavy on its auto tune usage, think there’s only about 30 seconds when it actually sounds like Nicki. Check it out anyways.

Tinchy Stryder – Bright Lights ft Pixie Lott
The two young pop sensation team up in this effort to break the charts. This kind of sounds like the same magic that Tinchy used on his track never leave you ft Amelle which went to number one. Best of luck on this one Tinchy.

Lana Del Rey – Born To Die
Today marked the release of Lana Del Rey’s album ‘Born to Die’ which for many of her fans was a special occasion. The album itself has received mixed reviews amongst critics from The rolling stones who have rated it a low 2/ 5 and stating that “her voice is pinched and prim, and her song doctors need to go the fuck back to med school” and others such as the metro who are less harsh and state that Del Rey’s passion feels cool to touch but she is definitely sticking around. The album has also received a lot of praise from its fans and has been heavily defended.
Lana Del Rey – Born To Die
The main theme of the album seems to be forbidden love, she’s the good girl that falls in love with the bad boy “you like your girls insane”. But as always the bad boy is not showing the girl the same type of devotion n and yet she carries on trying to impress him. The production is perhaps not inch perfect but a very good effort, the beats seem to drags you not the moment and sort of place you in the scene. Take born to die for example, each time I listen to that song it’s like everything else around me just goes silent.
Lana Del Rey – Video Games
For me she represents hope for a new generation of music, everything in the charts seems to be the same sort of music, mind numbing music, with catchy hooks that you cant get out of your head but with lyrics that seem to have been written by a 3 year old. This young woman’s music is catchy, smart, full of raw talent and somewhat close to been epic.

Roll Deep – Picture Perfect
The London based crew which holds the God father of grime Wiley as a memeber returns for another go at this charts with this tune which can only be described as a club banger. The new song is by all means funs but it seems after tasting a bit of success in the charts the group have abandoned their roots and got comfortable with simple dance beats, simple lyrics and a female stuck on the dance floor, a recipe for success in today’s music industry. But it would be nice to see them go back to the days when they made songs like when I’m here and showed the grime world what skill really is in this genre, but their music now can’t even be called grime. Best of luck to the group anyways.
